St Mary the Virgin, Rowner Parish

Communication update regarding COVID-19

25th March 2020

The Church continues to be alive and active, but our buildings must close

We are seeing a huge increase in the number of people falling sick with COVID-19. We must distance ourselves from one another and prevent the spread of infection in order to save lives.

Therefore, as well as public worship being suspended, this and all church buildings in the Church of England are now closed.

Our worship of God and our care for each other continue but cannot be done in this building.

Our website contains details of how to join others online for prayer, worship, study, and community life.

The vicar/churchwardens of this church can be contacted in an emergency by telephoning:

Karen Mitchell (Area Dean) 07834 322943

Cathy Juniper (Churchwarden) 01329 313408

Richard Evans (Churchwarden) 07766 903377

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength . . . Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”

To protect the vulnerable amongst us, please do not leave your home except for essential trips.

Welcome to Rowner

Parish Church: dedicated to   St Mary the Virgin.

Since the time of the Roman settlements, there has been a place of worship on this site in Rowner.  Over more than 1600 years later in 2014, we are still worshipping and meeting here today!
In addition to the Daily Offices of Morning and Evening Prayer and Mass, the Church is open every day from dawn till dusk and all are welcome to come in and sit quietly and pray or light a candle.
The Church Centre complex is available for private hire by groups and individuals and there is always a lively programme of events and activities to involve all of the local community. There is somebody here every day to meet you and perhaps talk to you.
We also host groups from other faiths and churches. On Friday, Muslim Prayers are said in the Church Hall. On Wednesday evening, we host the Indian Christian Community. We welcome any group, contact us if you would like to host your gatherings here. All are welcome.
So, whether you are here to worship with us, pray alone, come to a party, or just enjoy this beautiful building we are very pleased to welcome you.  If you would like to know more about the Church History please see our History page.

A word from the Rector, Canon John Draper

Welcome to this website. We are here to serve you. In this place the Christian message of love and welcome is lived out each and every day.  Rowner Parish Church tries to be a place of inclusive living and worship, which means that we welcome everyone's contribution to our life.  If you feel that we can help you on your Christian Journey, then please do come along and meet us; remember, each one of us came once for the first time, so we have all been anxious about being "new."
You might have searched us out because you want to celebrate an event in your life, in which case we can talk together to see how we can do that.  We love Celebrations!
You might be looking for help and advice on a particular local issue or something in Christian Teaching that you do not understand or even agree with: come and see us.  We are all seeking God together in this place.  We are all members of the Church which is founded in the Love of Jesus Christ.
                                                                                                 Fr. John
